The City of Sidney gave the Sidney Police Department approval to purchase a 2017 Ford Expedition SUV. The patrol vehicle would replace an existing 2011 Chevy Tahoe that is becoming too old and expensive to maintain to be serviceable.
The city council approved the police department to spend up to $55,500 on the vehicle which only actually cost $41,500 fully equipped.
Currently the Sidney PD has seven patrol cars with an average of three to five active at a time. The Police Department plans on phasing out the Dodge Chargers all together and only using the SUV style patrol cars.
(update: The Tahoe is also becoming expensive to maintain)
