On Sunday February 12th, a Sidney Police Officer attempted to execute a traffic stop on a speeding Hyundai traveling West on Illinois Street in the early midnight hour. According to the arrest affidavit, the vehicle with Colorado plates fled and turned onto Fort Sidney Road.
The Sidney PD pursued as the suspect led law enforcement through the Lodgepole Creek Apartments parking lot and through Cabela’s and Applebee's parking at speeds of over 100mph. The vehicle blew through a fence and traveled through an open field north of Mcdonalds where it crashed into a drainage ditch. The two suspects in the vehicle fled on foot.
Passenger Theresa Romero of Colorado was located in the parking lot of Maddox Motors. The driver, Romero’s boyfriend, Kevin Beierle of Colorado was found inside a camper parked at Maddox Motors by Nebraska State Patrol search dogs. Neither suspect was injured and both were arrested and booked into the Cheyenne County Jail. A small amount of meth was found in the vehicle.
Both suspects are facing several charges such as Felony Flee to Avoid Arrest, Obstructing a Peace Officer and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
