SIDNEY, NE – Two men were arrested at the Walmart in Sidney on Monday, March 13th, for attempting to shoplift a cell phone. Isaac Miller, 21, of Sidney was caught putting the Samsung cell phone and additional electronic equipment into his jacket pocket. While Miller took the phone out of its’ casing, Rudy Mejia, 29, blocked the view from other customers/Walmart employees.
As the two were exiting the store, Walmart Asset Protection stopped the men and notified the Sidney Police Department of the potential shoplifting. Upon arrival, the Sidney PD searched both Miller and Mejia.
Per the arrest affidavit, the stolen cell phone was found in Miller’s pocket along with a plastic bag of marijuana and a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue inside. No drugs or stolen items were found in the search of Mejia, but he was still arrested for assisting Miller in shoplifting.
Miller faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class IV Felony, and Theft-Shoplifting, a Class II Misdemeanor. Miller will have a preliminary hearing on those charges Tuesday, March 21st.
