SIDNEY, NE - The Cheyenne County Fair Board is considering making the arena at the fairgrounds larger. The extra room would create more options for performances such as the monster truck shows. Extending the arena north would require the fair board to move a water and electrical line. That can be done at no cost to the county because the fair board already has the necessary resources. The project will be done in a way that can be reversed if the arena needs to be condensed later.
The fair board and commissioners decided to lower the pavilion rental from $400 to $300 a day with a $500 damage deposit. 4-H youth would still have free access for activities such as horse riding.
The Cheyenne County Commissioners were given four bids to add concrete slabs to the area where the Oktoberfest tent is set up, and the hog barn for wash down. Currently most of the ground the tent sits on is asphalt. The commissioners chose Wieser Construction to complete the $50,000 project paid for by the Cheyenne County Visitors Committee. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-June of 2017.
