Lake McConaughy Fight the Flames Festival raises $21k

OGALLALA, Neb. - On Saturday, April 15, a group of volunteers put together a music festival to raise money for the victims of the recent Lake McConaughy fire where 24 structures were destroyed. The festival was held at the Rendezvous Square in Ogallala and 1,500 people attended.

Between the entry fees, silent auction and private donations, the festival raised over $21,000. Nine bands, both local and from as far as Denver and Wyoming, performed for free.

The individuals who volunteered for and coordinated the event were: Executive Director of the Ogallala Chamber Penny Metheny, volunteers Lori Wortman and Lorena Buckius, Lou Kraus Music Sound Engineer Bob Josjor, Justin Kane with Victory Underground and Darin Husmann with Buck’d Off.

So far $36,000 has been raised altogether for the fire victims and donations can still be mailed to the Ogallala/Keith County Chamber at P.O. Box 628 Ogallala NE 69153.
