Sidney PD hosts Special Olympics Torch Run

SIDNEY, Neb. - In honor of National Police Week, the Sidney Police Department held the Special Olympics Torch Run. On Wednesday, May 17, at 6:00pm, the race started at Mcdonalds and went to Hickory Square. All ages and abilities could run and t-shirts were given to those who participated.

The largest Nebraska Law Enforcement Torch run on record was held in Lincoln with about 90 runners. Sidney shattered the record with 101 runners.

The Sidney PD said that they would like to thank, “all who participated, Cabela's for donating water, and Rhonda Douglas, Kiersten Richards, and Lacey Russel for their work in making this such a successful run.”

National Police Week started in 1962 and goes from May 14 through May 20. Police week honors law enforcement and officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
