SIDNEY, Neb. - Sidney’s Sesquicentennial weekend and the solar eclipse is right around the corner and with a lot of Cheyenne County hotels booked, there is a lot of visitors expected. The three day event will be August 18-20 and will have historical speakers, tours, a parade, car show, live music, Nebraska beer and wine tasting, activities at the fairgrounds and more. The eclipse is on August 21 and is expected to be viewable from Sidney at about 11:45am.

There are some street closures to plan for that weekend as well. From August 18 at 8:30am to the morning of August 21, 10th Ave from Hickory to King Street will be closed off for the historical speaker tent, beer and wine tasting tent, and the stage. The intersection of Illinois and the sidewalks will remain open.

Jackson Street from 9th to 13th Ave and 11th from Illinois to Jackson will be closed on August 19 at 7am for the car show. Jackson and 11th will reopen at 10pm that night. Illinois will also be closed from 23rd to 385 from 7-11am to accommodate for the Smoking Gun 5k run and historical parade. The City parking behind Finney’s and both alleys from Hickory to Jackson on 10th Ave will be closed from 7am-10pm August 19.

The road work that is currently on Illinois Street is expected to be out of the way for the weekend. The Cheyenne County Chamber encourages businesses to decorate their windows with historical themes and to participate in the parade to promote their business as there will be a lot of people in downtown Sidney.
