Sidney and Kimball fireman take rope rescue course

SIDNEY, Neb. - The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department hosted a basic rope rescue course instructed by The Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division.

Eight Sidney fire fighters and three Kimball fireman signed up for the class. The training took place near East Elm Street north of Sidney.

The firefighters were in class on Friday, and then received hands on training all day Saturday where they learned how to tie various knots and repel. Sidney Assistant Fire Chief LaVerne Bown said the training could be useful in the event that an injured person must be safely lowered from a high standing structure such as a grain elevator.
