Update: Search continues for possibly armed suspect

SIDNEY, Neb. - Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens released an update following the pursuit of an armed suspect Monday night. The chase began in Deuel County when a Nebraska State Trooper attempted to pull over a stolen pickup.

Aikens said that the suspect was last seen at the crash site on County Road 95 just South of Brownson where after the dust from the accident cleared, no driver could be found. It is unknown which direction the suspect is headed and as of 12:30pm Tuesday the subject has not been caught or seen. Aikens said that there is no reason to believe there is more than one suspect however there is reason to believe the individual is armed. A turquoise 1997 GMC Sierra Pickup Nebraska Plate 39-97R was reported missing from the area of the crash site leaving authorities to believe it could have been taken by the suspect.

Aikens added that the City of Sidney will continue the Trunk or Treat festivities this evening with officers present and are not anticipating any encounters with the suspect. Cheyenne County Sheriff John Jensen said that everyone should still go out and enjoy Halloween, as several officers will be on patrol.
