Attendance up this year in Aquatic Center report

SIDNEY, Neb. - Sidney Parks Superintendent Tom Von Seggern provided the City Council with an Aquatic Center report for the summer of 2017. The pool’s season went from May 27 to September 3.

The attendance was up from last year going from 14,404 to 14,682 and an average 151 attending each day. More 2017 season passes were purchased than in 2016 going from 254 to 301 passes. Daily admissions for those who didn’t purchase passes however went down from 6,776 to 5,526 admissions. This is believed to be because more used season passes this year. The spectator pass was added for those that wanted to be at the pool but not actually go into the water.

The total attendance revenue was $64,092 down from last years $66,796. In 2017 council implemented discounted rates for season passes that helped free and reduced lunch families. Concession stand revenue went from $9,693 to $10,102.

Due to an increase in insurance, expenses rose from $173,711 in 2016 to $184,773 in 2017. Premium rates are based on an annual revenue that was underestimated last year. The pool’s subsidized 60% totaling $110,579 for this year.

The pool was also used for events such as swim meets, the “Dash for the Splash,” swim lessons, and the “Moms and Tots” program.
