Sidney Parks Department to begin alley tree trimming

SIDNEY, Neb. - The City of Sidney Parks Department is scheduled to begin trimming trees and bushes in the alleys on Monday January 22. Alleys are trimmed back each year by the City for the safety of staff and equipment.

Property owners can trim their own alley trees and bushes, but must do so to City standards, and be completed prior to January 22.

Alley rights-of-way must be trimmed back to the City easement line defined by the property fence or if no fence, back behind the utility poles, boxes or meters. Tree branches over 1 inch in diameter must be trimmed back to the branch collar at the trunk, or a larger branch. Tree branches must allow a clearance of 15 feet above the alley-way.

Property owners must contact the Park Department to indicate they intend to do their own trimming. If it is not done to City standards, staff will do additional pruning back to the City easement line.

The Parks Department will typically work from 7:30am to 3:30pm, as weather and schedules permit. If there is property blocking the right-of-way or are within the drop zone of the trimming efforts, the owner will be contacted.

The Parks Department & City said they would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and for more information, contact the Parks Department at (308)-254-3307.
