Sidney Economic Development Director: “$1.00 is a good selling point”

SIDNEY, Neb. - Bass Pro Chief Executive Johnny Morris sent out a document to employees late December with details of what's to come following the Bass Pro and Cabela's merger. In the document, it was explained that the older of the two Cabela’s buildings will no longer be used by the company and Bass Pro will lease the $35 million space to “qualified employers” for one dollar per year.

Bass Pro and the City are collaboratively working together along with the State Economic Development team to find potential businesses that are looking to grow, expand, or start.

Sidney Economic Development Director Melissa Norgard said that the City has been in contact with a number of companies over the last six months bringing up selling points of Sidney such as the workforce and office space available. Norgard says the added benefit of $1.00 a year lease space will easily add to Sidney’s selling point.

Norgard said that the chances of finding one business to fill the entire building is unlikely, however the building is easily divided, and it will be easier to have more than one business in the facility. In addition, “Having several diversified businesses may prevent this situation from happening again.”

Norgard explained that the process is, “Going to take time as companies are going to want to research where they are going before they jump in, it has to be the right company at the right time at the right phase to make the decision.”
