Sidney property and sales tax budget report

SIDNEY, Neb. -  Sidney Finance Director David Scott presented a budget report Tuesday evening regarding property and sales tax.

Scott said that the city has so far collected $76,494 in property tax compared to $164,530 at the same time last year. Scott said that there is some variance in timing of payments from the county to the city and there is nothing to be concerned about at this point, but the revenue will continue to be monitored.

Scott reported that the city has received $536,766 in sales tax as of December 30, last year at this time only $498,120 had been received. Scott said that since sales tax has not increased much from last year, looking at last year's sales tax revenue is not a good indicator. In December of 2015 the city received $820,534 and $757,955 in 2014.

The city is still hitting 21% compared to budget mark which is close to past years percentage. Scott said that this means sales tax has decreased from previous years and the city has appropriately budgeted for the decrease.
