Glenn Miller Orchestra performs in Sidney

SIDNEY, Neb. -  The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra performed in Sidney Wednesday evening. The big band that formed in 1938 performed hits such as “In the Mood” and “Tuxedo Junction.” The High Plains Arts Council hosted the concert at the Sidney High School Performing Arts Center.

Glenn Miller was born in Clarinda, Iowa in 1904, got his musical start growing up in North Platte, Nebraska, and graduated high school in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

The Trombonist entered the military in 1942 where he was the Captain of the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. In 1944, Miller’s plane that was headed to Europe was lost and never seen again.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra got back together in 1956, and today, the group with 18 new members, led by director Nick Hilscher, continues to carry on Glenn Miller’s legacy.
