Local scholarship winners announced at Chamber Ag Social

SIDNEY, Neb. - The Cheyenne County Chamber Agriculture Committee has awarded two scholarships each year since 2015 to area students who plan to pursue a college degree in an agricultural related field. On Thursday night, as part of the Ag Social at Buffalo Point Steakhouse and Grill in Sidney, the two scholarship winners were officially recognized.

Brodie Sutton of Sidney High School was awarded a one-year merit-based scholarship worth $1,000. He plans to attend the University of Wyoming in Laramie seeking an education in Agriculture Business an area that he has been exposed to his whole life.

“My first memories I have are out there farming with my dad and grandpa every day throughout the summer,” Sutton recalled. “Other kids were at the pool, I was out there working on the farm.”

Sutton hopes to obtain his Business degree and then move back to Cheyenne County and take over the family farm.

While unable to attend Thursday night’s social, the other scholarship recipient was Decendis Seranno of Potter-Dix High School. Serrano will be attending Chadron State College pursuing higher education in Equine Management. She was awarded a $500 merit-based scholarship.

Both students were chosen by the Ag Committee based on their chosen educational paths, their performance in the classroom and in standardized testing, as well as a written essay they submitted outlining their needs for the scholarship.
