Deuel County Deputy inadvertently drugged during vehicle search

DEUEL COUNTY, Neb. - On Friday, May 4, a Deuel County Deputy was dispatched to a “possibly broken down” vehicle located on Interstate 76 near mile marker 3 at 11:10pm.

Upon arrival, Deputy Anderson spoke with the driver of the vehicle and started to develop suspicion of criminal activity. Deputy Anderson began to search the vehicle and found used syringes in the trunk.

A few moments later, he began to feel ill and immediately called for medical assistance. Deputy Anderson was rushed to the hospital by the Big Springs Volunteer Fire Department where it was determined that he had come into contact with Heroin or Suboxone, possibly through the syringes.

Deputy Anderson was released from the hospital after a short period of time with no further symptoms or concerns. It is currently unknown whether or not the driver of the vehicle is facing any criminal charges.
