Leland "Lee" Blake

Following a heroic and noble fight, Leland "Lee" Blake, 61, went home to be with his Savior and his parents on August 24, 2017. He passed peacefully and free of pain in the care of loving nurses at a hospice facility in Lincoln, NE.

Lee was born to the late Marjorie and LeRoy Blake in Julesburg, Colorado, on November 12, 1955, at 12:26 AM. With his parents and sisters, he resided in Ovid, Colorado, attending school, playing football, and eating his Mom's famous custard. Lee went on to be a jack of all trades, including painting, roofing, restaurant hood cleaning, dishwashing at Pizza Hut, and "Lee's Lawn Service" including the famous "Molly Put Put" tractor with which all of his grandkids hold so many memories. Accoring to his Son, Ryan Blake, he filled the role of handyman, helping friends and family fix just about anything around town.

In the weeks leading up to his journey home, he would tell you that he was blessed to have gained numerous memories with family and friends, be it by his side or long conversations by phone.

Lee had an eccentric personality and a generous spirit. Those who were blessed to know him found him in many places, whether you were greeted by him at church, worked with him at Pizza Hut, held a 15 minute conversation in the checkout lane at Family Dollar, or were supported by his rich sponsorship in AA. In the words of a close family member, Timothy Tennant, "If you lived in Sidney, Nebraska, and didn't know Lee Blake, you were living under a rock."

Lee was preceeded in death by his older sister, Florence Blake. He is survived by the following loved ones: his love, Rhonda Rust, and sisters Clara Short and Carolyn Vavra, his former wife and friend Tina Uhrig; his children Jim, Robin, Candy, Tammy and partner Joe, and Ryan Blake with his wife, Rachel; and grandkids , Derek, Donovan, Dylan, Austin, Zachary, Miranda, Emma, Ahleah, James, Thomas, Jacob, Jayden, Jorden, and any future grandbabies that he will watch from up above. This limited list does not include the many best friends and family that he loved so richly and held so closely.

A memorial service to celebrate his life and mourn our loss will be held on his birthday, November 12, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church in Sidney, 1129 10th Ave. Following the service will be a potluck, as these were his favorite moments at church. The service will begin at 12:26 PM, representing the time he was born. We will laugh, cry, and try to figure out which of his stories were real and which were "BS", as he would always admit. Following this service the family will be taking his physical remains to be placed with his parents in Ovid, Colorado. Let's send this fearless spirit off with loving memories as he takes flight with his own Eagles wings.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to his son's address: 5460 Walker Ave, Lincoln, NE 68504.
