When preseason camp begins college football teams will be operating under new guidelines designed to limit contact.
Last spring the NCAA approved a rule which ends two-a-day practices in the preseason. Beginning this season teams are limited to a single, three-hour practice, a walk-through and a meeting. Nebraska coach Mike Riley applauds the move.
“I think it is a great rule”, said Riley. “I think we have slowly been moving away from two-a-days as we used to know them. This will be a better pace for our players.”
And one that Riley believes will be safer for the players even though it may lengthen preseason camp.
Under the new rule walk-throughs can’t include conditioning and players will not be allowed to wear helmets and pads.
“If you give me a practice, a walk-through and meeting time each day that is good, added Riley. “We can make all of our plans around those three things.”
