Sidney sweep Chadron

SIDNEY — Riding the momentum of a Western Conference Tournament championship over the weekend, the Sidney Lady Raider volleyball team overpowered Chadron Tuesday night at the Cabela’s Athletic Center. Sidney out hit the Cardinals 27-8 on their way to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-12 sweep to improve to 16-11 on the season. Sidney’s next action will be next Tuesday

Chadron kept the first set close and took their first lead midway through 13-12. The Cardinals stretched the lead to 17-14, but that would be their last lead of the set. Sidney would finish on an 11-2 run to capture the first set 25-19.

Chadron scored the first point of the second set, but that would be their last lead of the match. Sidney opened up a 15-8 forcing Chadron to use their last timeout. That did little to slow the Lady Raider momentum as Sidney pounded down 6 kills, 3 from Julia Evertson, to close out the set 25-16.

The third set was all Sidney. The Lady Raiders put together big runs behind 11 kills, 4 from Payton Jung. Chadron survived two match points before a Cardinal service error ended the set 25-12.

Mattie Johnson led all hitters with 7 kills, Payton Jung was right behind with 6 kills. Julia Evertson and Natalie Radcliffe finished with 5 kills each.

Sidney won the freshman match 25-13, 12-25, 15-5. The Junior Varsity also went to Sidney 27-25, 25-17.

Sidney’s next action is Tuesday, October 17 as they travel to Gering for a match with the Bulldogs.
