Sidney Red Raider head football coach Chris Koozer is attempting to start a tradition of honoring former Sidney High student-athletes who go on and compete at the college level and finish their degree. The first student-athletes to be honored will be 2013 SHS graduate Tanner Wintholz.

The celebration will be Saturday, November 11, at Chadron State College. Tanner will play his final game for the Eagles at noon on Saturday against CSU-Pueblo. There will be a special place for the Sidney fans to sit at the game and immediately following all are invited to a reception in Armstrong gym. Cookies and punch will be served.

While a Raider, Wintholz played 3 years of varsity football, playing both offense and defense and long snapper. He also wrestled varsity for 2 years, qualifying for state his junior and senior year. He placed 3rd in class B his senior year in the 195# weight class. He was also a Nebraska Boys State Delegate in 2012.

Wintholz signed with Chadron State to play football and red-shirted his freshman year. Since 2014 he has played nose guard for 4 seasons for the Eagles. Tanner will graduate from CSC in December 2017 with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in coaching. He plans on returning to Sidney and in the fall of 2018 hopes to pursue his dream of coaching with the Sidney Red Raiders.
