Sidney pulls away from Alliance in season finale

ALLIANCE — The Sidney Red Raiders improved to 16-7 on the season with a 67-56 road win at Alliance on Friday night. It was the second meeting between the Western Conference foes. The first meeting was won by Alliance 58-56 at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility on December 16th.

Sidney got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter. Alliance answered with a three from Joel Baker and a two from Mason Hiemstra to cut the Raider lead in half. Sidney would lead at the end of the first quarter 12-7.

In the second and third quarters, the two teams traded buckets with Sidney leading at half 22-16. Bothe teams scored 13 points in the third so the Raiders took a 6-point 35-29 lead into the final period.

Both teams came out firing from a distance in the fourth quarter. Sidney knocked down four 3-pointers and the Bulldogs hit five. The game however would come down, as it often does, to a free throw contest which the Raiders won. Sidney made 18 of 21 of their free throws while Alliance was 6 of 9.

Sidney had 4 players in double figures led by Jake Burke’s 17 points. Jon Smith and Connor Dormann added 14, while Arik Doty added 10.
