Red Raiders in B-8 Championship

SCOTTSBLUFF — The Sidney Red Raiders (17-7) defeated the Alliance Bulldogs (13-9) for the second time in four days to move into the championship game of the B-8 Sub-District in Scottsbluff.  The Raiders built a 22 point second half lead and cruised to a 51-38 win to advance. Sidney will now face the top-seeded Scottsbluff Bearcats tonight in the sub-district final at 6:00 p.m. at Scottsbluff High School.

Jake Burke scored the first 5 points of the game to get Sidney off to a quick start. The Raiders maintained the momentum and finished the quarter up 12-7.  Sidney stretched their lead to 25-13 going into the intermission as Jake Burke added seven more to his total to tally 12 points at halftime.

As quick a start as Sidney had at the beginning of the game, the second half started even better for the Raiders as Sidney sprinted to a 36-16 lead with an 11-3 run to start the third quarter. The Sidney defense held Alliance to single digits for the third straight quarter, taking a 41-22 lead into the final stanza.

Alliance picked up the defensive pressure in the last period while knocking down three 3-pointers to cut the Sidney lead down to 9. As the clock ticked away, the Bulldogs were forced to foul, and once again Sidney made their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Sidney scoring was led by Jake Burke, who finished with 18 points. Connor Dormann added 17 for the Raiders. Sidney’s defense held Alliance’s top two scorers well below their season averages. Joel Baker (16.0 ppg) led the Bulldogs with 10 points. Mason Hiemstra (18.0 ppg) fouled out of the ballgame with only 4 points.

Sidney will now face Scottsbluff for the fourth time this season. The Bearcats won the first two games but Sidney got the last one 62-48 on February 3.
