Sidney sending several track & field athletes to state

SIDNEY, Neb. - The Class B State Track & Field Championship begins Friday, May 18, at Omaha Burke Stadium and the Sidney Red Raiders have several participants.

Following a strong showing at the Class B District 6 competition last Thursday, Sidney will be represented by eight individuals and two teams.

In the girls competition, after a first place finish at Districts with a 10-06, sophomore Madyson Johnstone will compete in the Girls Pole Vault event. She’ll be joined by freshman Logan Holly who received an automatic qualifying position after vaulting nine feet ten inches.

Senior Natalie Radcliffe will compete in the Girls 400-Meter Dash after a third place finish at Districts running a 1:03:01. Radcliffe also qualified for the 300-Meter Hurdles capturing a second place finish, 47.91.

For the boys, senior Mitchell Porter will compete in a pair of field events after taking the title at the B-6 District competition in both Boys High Jump (6-04) and Triple Jump (43-05).

In the track events, junior Cade Lewis finished a close second in both the Boys 100- and 200-Meter Dash events clocking in at 10.97 and 22.39, respectively. Senior Derek Robb earned an automatic qualifying bid in the 100-Meter Dash with an 11.40. Another junior Christian Balandran won the Boys 400-Meter Dash with a time of 51.82.

Senior Jonathan Smith qualified for the state competition in hurdles finishing first in the 300-Meter Int. Hurdles at 40.82 and third in the 110-Meter Hurdles with a 15.50.

Sidney will have two boys teams competing as well after taking first in both the 400-Meter Relay (43.02) and 1600-Meter Relay (3:29.67). The 400 team is made up of seniors Coby Haas and Robb, and a pair of juniors, Balandran and Cade Lewis; Robb and Porter make half of the 1600 team with Balandran and sophomore Skylar Heineman.
